Process
I started with a slab that I wrapped around a cylindrical mold and I used 2 more slabs to cut out the bottom and the lid. To attach the bottom I used scratches and slip to make sure it was firmly attached. For the lid I rolled a coil and attached onto the inside of the slab so it wouldn’t fall off easily and that was my base complete. Then I added details such as carvings and small teacups. I just need a few more things then it is ready for firing.
The most helpful watercolor warm up was the children's illustration as I taught me how to layer colors to shade and give the piece dimension. The most helpful perspective one was the letters as it forced me to think more about the perspective with the diagonal lines which was helpful for the castle as most of it was made of cylinders.
I found the children books illustration most helpful as I just had to figure it out on my own and I had think a little differently to mimic the original artist. The thing I like about watercolor is watching the colors flow so smoothly into each other. It gives the whole painting a soothing quality with the nice gradients. Related to the subtle colors I found getting vibrant colors hard to do. They just kept ending up as a pastel, which looked nice on some parts but it was not exactly what I had in mind.
