Greenware
GreenwareDescribe: These three pinch pots are themed around mushrooms with a focus on the form of the pots. The first pot is a cylindrical like shape with and indent filled with flat fanned mushrooms. The outside is textured like the bark of a tree. The second pot is shaped like a tree stump with the classic round mushrooms on the sides, the outside is also textured like the bark of a tree. The last pot is round with a hole in the side like a cave with long thin mushrooms along the sides. Analyze: All three pots were made starting with a sphere of clay with a hole. The first was extended upwards before pushing an indent into the cylinder. The mushrooms where made individually and attached like long flower petals starting at the top and working my way down. Texture was simply carved in using a stick. The second was extended into an asymmetric shape and then flatted to appear like a tree stump. The mushrooms were made with the cap first and then the stem added later, texture was added in the same way as before. The last one the sphere was kept in tact only making the hole deeper and the walls thinner. The mushrooms were made with thin coils that were coiled further on the top to create the cap. Interpret: The theme of form was chosen and it was seen in the unique shapes of the bases of the pots, the mushrooms simply emphasize that. Judge: I think the piece was successful as the three pots are well made in my opinion and the forms are organic. Sketch: In-Progress |
