The place that is represented in my piece is the ballet studio and the stage. I spend a lot of my time at the studio practicing/rehearsing and I enjoy performing. It allows me to express myself in a different way and get lost in the movement. I added the transition from the studio instead of just the stage because most of the work put in is never seen and the studio is where everything begins. The scene I painted was Kingdom of Shades from the ballet La Bayadère. The most challenging part of the piece was painting the dancers. I wanted to paint them more realistically however it didn't work out. They ended up without faces and hands. Overall I was unsatisfied with them . I also had difficulties with the off-whites. My painting required lots of white and it was hard to get the colors to be different yet still white. On the other hand the most successful part was the moon. I was really happy with how it turned out with the bits of pink and blue. I did like the background of the stage in general. Process

These activities gave me a better understanding of color and techniques for painting. I think the most helpful for my planned painting is the tint/tone/shade. I learned the most from painting a tree and I think I was successful as the tree I painted looked better then normal. You can make brown by mixing a color with its complimentary color, like blue and orange or red and green. To tone down a color you add grey or a little bit of its complimentary color.
